Should we pay for GW?
The most disappointing thing about GW is not the game itself. I have finished most of the PvE campaign with the exception of UW and FOW, and recently tried some PvP, both in the 4 X 4 random arenas and the team arenas. While I find the economy in the game and trading system lacking, the game itself is great. It???s the community that sucks IMO.
I thought is was bad in the PvE part of the game with the whiners, rudeness, and people insisting of getting the ???perfect group??? for a mission. God, you spend more time finding a group than playing. But PvP is even worse. It really is unbelievable. When you first start PvP, you???re pretty much a newb all over again, and subject to the usual bullshit with the ??? Stupid noob!??? freakin faggot! Etc etc. And that I can put up with, but the thing that annoys me the most are that people are just such big babies and take the game WAY to seriously! This game is supposed to be played for fun. Not like your life depended on it. I???m new to this genre, with the exception of Asherons Call 2 which I played for a couple of months prior to GW. While that game had it???s share of problems, (and in the process of being shut down), it had a very supportive close knit community. Most of the people playing that game were friendly intelligent gamers and played the game to enjoy it. People actually went out of their way to help out a new player. In GW, if you have a question on gameplay, don???t bother asking anyone in-game, as you???re most likely to get either no response at all or ???STFU noob!??? You have to rely on guild mates or the forums to get any info. Thank God for this forum. At least people here will take the time to answer questions. Other than this and a couple other GW forums, it???s the only place I???ve found intelligent people, which is pretty sad. As bad as I feel to say this, I for one would rather pay a monthly fee, and weed out a lot of the idiots playing now. Last edited by fezz47; Sep 25, 2005 at 07:14 PM // 19:14.. |

Weird I like the game and havent found any real mean people. Most are willing to help answer questions, give new players some start up gold/items, run ppl to different locations. I really havent noticed any of the problems you have.

I agree that the greater portion of the general GW community consists of childish l33t speakers, but a pay-per-month fee is not the answer. There really is no way from keeping that kind of people from playing the game. Furthermore, its not in ArenaNet's best interest to discourage certain people from buying the game. A gamer who doesn't want to deal with the general GW community just has to play with people he/she knows, form a guild with people he/she likes, and when all else fails, take matters into his or her own hands and form pick-up groups selectively with a few PC's and henchmen. As for PvP, turn off community chat in arena districts and game with guildies...

Children (and indeed immature adults) exist in all online games...it's a sad fact. Best we can do is try to ignore them.
Failing that, you can report anyone who you know are in breach of their End User License Agreement. Guild Wars support don't expect anyone to take the shite that people spew out into the game. You have a right as a player to enjoy your gaming experience. Don't let them drag you down the pan. |

I"m not talking about so much about mean people, I'm talking about people that show no respect for other players. I could care less if someone is "mean" to me.
As an example, in the random arena, you start out with 4 people and do a PvP "mission". The problem is, if you start the mission and one of your teamates dies, half the time, at least one of the remaining people on your team will just "drop out" of the game thinking they can't win, so why bother? This leaves you and whatever teamates still there at a huge disadvantage. I'll always keep playing even if I'm the only member still in the match. It's good experience and you learn as much, if not more by losing, than by winning a lot of the time. Then you get the blame game. Someone dies. "REZ ME!". Now, if no one does. "WTF? Freakin noob! Idiot!" It's like a 3 yr old being denied their bottle of moo moo. Wah wah! As far as helping out newer players, I have done that myself. A couple of weeks ago, I went to Ascalon and started giving away some fur squares, and other assorted items to people just to be a nice guy. And I swear, approx. half of the people I "gave" stuff to didn't even bother to thank me. So long sucker lol. I don't know. Guess I'm just burned out on the game. I don't mean to sound negative about the game in gen, cause I've certainly gotten my moneys worth and more, and have a lot of fun chatting w/guildies. Just wish some of these people would grow up a bit and have a little more fun with the game. Last edited by fezz47; Sep 25, 2005 at 09:31 PM // 21:31.. |

I dunno, I've had v. little bad experience, I just ask something, ppl either reply to me there or wisper me the reply..so I dont find it bad...and if someone is in need, even I reply to them and tell them what they needed to know.
If you help someone, that person will take it as an impression from you and will others..thats the way to make community btr. |

I bought the game to play a MMORPG for free. If i wanted to pay for a game monthly I would have bought World of Warcraft.

You don't like the immature people? Turn off local/trade chats. Or go on during the day or late at night when the kiddies are asleep. I see a huge difference in the crowd since I sign on around 9 PM...when i sign on earlier it can get really immature. |

Whoa now. Talk, but no walk. Can't back up what you're saying eh? Anyways, Anet wanted people to play without having to pay a monthly fee, so that people can enjoy. Dealing with all annoying people and what not is just how it in real life too. I feel that if you had to pay for GW, you would NOT weed out "idiots." For I feel that more smug and snotty people who can afford things more than others, are more idiotic. Whever you go, there WILL be idiots. Until we all mature. |

Hell no. I paid 50 bucks so I didn't pay monthly. The game I was playing prior was 5 bucks a month and I played it for more than 10 months, so this game is better. Monthly fees will not keep idiots out, it will just force them to pay to play. I think you should be ashamed for suggesting this, seriously.
